Yard Goats Use Seven Extra Base Hits to Win Third in Row

Binghamton, NY - The Hartford Yard Goats used seven extra base hits, and solid pitching to defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5-2 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Yard Goats starter Nick Garcia earned his first win, going 5.2 innings and allowing just two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Relievers Austin Kitchen, Michael Petersen and Nick Kuzia fired 3.1 scoreless as the Yard Goats improved to 3-1 in second half. Hartford did the offensive damage with six doubles and a triple and put together a three-run fourth inning with a two-run double from Hunter Goodman and an RBI double from Drew Romo. Colin Simpson had three hits, including two doubles, and Niko Decolati had a pair of doubles for the Yard Goats who have won three in a row.

Binghamton starter Jose Chacin retired the first nine batters of the game with four strikeouts over the first three innings. However, Niko Decolati led off the fourth inning with a double to right field. After Jack Blomgren waked, Hunter Goodman crushed a double down the left field line, scoring Decolati and Blomgren, giving the Yard Goats a 2-0 lead. It was Goodman's team leading 20th double of the season. Later in the inning, Drew Romo contributed with a two-out RBI double, scoring Goodman to make it a 3-0 game.

Yard Goats starter Nick Garcia put together his second consecutive solid start. After tossing six scoreless innings on Friday at Dunkin' Park against Erie, he permitted just one hit and no runs over the first five innings with six strikeouts. The righty retired 15 of the first 17 batters faced before the Rumble Ponies got to him in the sixth inning. Jaylen Palmer had a one out single and Wyatt Young walked. After Garcia recorded the second out of the inning, Rowdy Jordan followed with a double to center field, scoring Palmer and Young and making it a 3-2 game. Austin Kitchen came in and retired Jose Peroza to end the inning.

The Yard Goats added two runs in the ninth inning after a leadoff triple by Drew Romo who scored on a sacrifice fly by Julio Carreras, making it 4-2. Colin Simpson followed with his second double of the game and scored on a throwing error to make it 5-2.

The Yard Goats continue the series in Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Hughes will pitch for the Yard Goats and RHP Luis Moreno will pitch for the Rumble Ponies. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday, July 4th (6:10 PM vs New Hampshire) in a game that will feature a Patriotic Firework display following the contest.
