Erie SeaWolves News Release

Erie blasted three home runs as they took a second straight game from Akron, winning 6-3.

Akron got an early run against SeaWolves starter Brant Hurter. Jose Tena led off the first inning with a single and stole second base. The RubberDucks loaded the bases with one out after Hurter hit Angel Martinez with a pitch and walked Johnathan Rodriguez. Juan Brito lined a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Tena with the game's first run.

After Erie stranded two in scoring position in the first inning against Hunter Stanley, the SeaWolves broke through in the second. Ben Malgeri, who hit two home runs in game two on Friday, led off the second with another home run to tie the game at one. After Gage Workman followed with a double and got to third on a fielder's choice, Diego Rincones scored the go-ahead run when Akron could not convert his ground ball into an out thanks to an error on Aaron Bracho at second base. A Trei Cruz bunt single loaded the bases. Justice Bigbie scored one more on a sharp single. Wenceel Perez beat out a potential double play grounder to score Erie's fourth run of the frame.

The SeaWolves broke the game open with consecutive homers by Andrew Navigato and Jake Holton leading off the fifth inning. Erie hit back-to-back home runs for the second consecutive game. Holton also homered for the second straight game. Ben Malgeri followed with a double, ending Stanley's day.

Hurter was knocked out in the fifth after allowing Brito's second sacrifice fly. It followed a walk to Martinez and a double by Rodriguez. Austin Bergner entered and retired the side without further damage.

Brant Hurter (4-3) secured the win, allowing two runs in 5.1 innings. He struck out eight and allowed three hits and two walks. Stanley (3-6) took the loss.

Akron got one more against Bergner with two out in the seventh. Martinez lined a triple to center field and scored on a single by Rodriguez.

Angel De Jesus struck out two in a perfect eighth inning. Andrew Magno secured his second save by punching out three batters after a leadoff walk in the ninth.

Erie and Akron continue their series at 6:35 p.m. on Sunday as Lael Lockhart opposes Will Dion.
