Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In front of 7,185 fans, the eighth-largest crowd in BB&T Ballpark history, Adam Engel rocketed a walk-off single to left in the 11th inning to propel the Dash to a 5-4 win over Potomac.

With runners on first and second and one out, the 2015 Year-End Carolina League All-Star roped a base hit off Potomac reliever Dakota Bacus (0-2) to score Brett Austin and secure Winston-Salem's first extra-inning win in the Triad this season.

Engel finished the contest 3-for-5 and now has recorded a multi-hit game in each of his four starts with the Dash this season. Friday's win also marked Winston-Salem's second walk-off in the Triad this season.

Left-hander Andre Wheeler (2-0) ensured that Engel had an opportunity to win it by tossing two scoreless frames out of the bullpen en route to the win.

Friday's back-and-forth contest saw Winston-Salem (13-22) strike first in the opening frame. With Engel on second and one out, Gerson Montilla grounded an RBI single off Potomac's starter Phillips Valdez to make it 1-0.

In what would be a theme all night, Potomac (17-15) tied the contest in the next half inning. Alec Keller stroked a two-out RBI single to center field off Dash starter Jordan Stephens to tie the ballgame.

Winston-Salem went scoreless in the second and third innings before breaking a 1-1 tie in the fourth. With runners on second and third and one out, Toby Thomas drove in Marcus Davis on an RBI groundout to retake the lead.

Potomac knotted the ballgame at two in the fifth. With runners on first and third and one away, Andrew Stevenson plated Alec Keller on a bizarre sacrifice fly double play.

Winston-Salem went up 3-2 in the sixth after back-to-back doubles from Austin and Thomas, but the Nationals re-tied the contest in the seventh against Stephens. With a runner on second and two outs, Khayyan Norfork lashed an RBI single to right to square the game at three.

Stephens finished the contest allowing three runs in seven frames, a career high for the right-hander at the professional level. He had only logged more than four innings in one previous outing with Winston-Salem.

The Dash went back ahead in the seventh on another RBI single by Montilla, but the Nationals brought the game even at four on a passed ball by Dash reliever Connor Walsh, who was otherwise strong in two innings.

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. tilt against the Nationals. Winston-Salem sends Spencer Adams (3-2, 4.38 ERA) to the bump against fellow right-hander Wirkin Estevez (0-2, 4.74 ERA). The Pregame Dash starts at 6:15 p.m., and fans can tune into the game at wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv or the TuneIn App.
