Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Trevor Clifton struck out a career-high 10 in six shutout innings and Jason Vosler went 2-for-3 with a home run as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans beat the Winston-Salem Dash 3-0 Thursday at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Clifton's (1-3) ten strikeouts were season-high for the Myrtle Beach (16-14) staff. He allowed only four hits and did not walk a batter.
The Pelicans struck out 15 as a team, which was also a season-high. Tommy Thorpe struck out three and James Farris added two. Farris earned a four-out save, his sixth save of the season.
Dash (12-22) starter Thad Lowry (1-3) retired the first four batters of his outing on just nine pitches. But with one out and nobody on in the second, Jason Vosler crushed a solo home run, the first to leave the ballpark to right field this season.
With the score still 1-0 Pelicans in the seventh, Vosler led off the inning by ripping a double to the wall in right-center. After Gioskar Amaya bunted him to third, Daniel Lockhart flew out deep to center to score Vosler and make it 2-0 Myrtle Beach.
Lowry wound up giving up just those two runs on four hits over seven good innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
With reliever Colin Kleven on in the eighth, Charcer Burks walked before Gleyber Torres singled. The next better was Ian Happ, who drove in Burks with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-0.
The shutout was the third of the season for Myrtle Beach, which is now 8-4 against Winston-Salem this season.
The Pelicans will be in Frederick for a four-game set over the weekend. Erick Leal (3-2, 4.50 ERA) will pitch for Myrtle Beach as Cory Jones (1-3, 6.00 ERA) goes for the Keys. Coverage begins at 6:45pm on MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast, the MiLB First Pitch app and TuneIn.
The 2016 season is the 18th season for the Pelicans franchise and second as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2016, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
