Energy Roll Past Canton 100-82 in Season Opener

DES MOINES, IA - The 2011 NBA D-League Champion Iowa Energy opened up season with a convincing 100-82 victory over the Canton Charge Friday night in Canton. A balanced attack, featuring six players in double-figures, helped Iowa blow open a game that was close through the 1st half.

The Energy led the game 54-50 at the half as Stanley Robinson and Andrew Drevo each scored 12 points for the visitors.

Iowa opened the 2nd half with a 9-0 run to take 63-50 lead with 9:25 left in the 3rd quarter. The Energy, who out-rebounded Canton 53-29 on the night, stretched the lead to 22 points in the 4th quarter before coasting to the victory. The win moves Iowa's record to 5-0 all-time in opening games, all of which have been on the road.

Robinson came off the bench to score 18 points and grab 9 rebounds, while Drevo added 16 points and 9 boards. Rookies Jarrid Famous and Nick Murphy each recorded double-doubles in their professional debuts. Famous finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Murphy added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Moses Ehambe (12 points) and Brandon Ewing (10) also finished in double figures for the Energy.

Canton was led by Travis Franklin's 25 point night. The Charge shot only 1 of 17 from 3-point land in the game.

Iowa heads to Sioux Falls for a game tomorrow night at 7pm. The Energy then travel to Rio Grande Valley for two games before returning home next Saturday for the unveiling of the championship banner and the ring presentation.
