Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Lansing, MI - Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit his ninth home run of 2022 as the Kernels fell 7-3 to the Lansing Lugnuts on Thursday evening. The Kernels committed two errors and were thrown out three times on the basepaths. Thanks to a Peoria win over Wisconsin, the Kernels remain a game ahead of the Timber Rattlers.
Cedar Rapids opened the scoring in the second as Yunior Severino and Jeferson Morales rapped back-to-back one-out singles, followed by a two-out RBI knock by Wander Javier. Lansing plated a pair in the third and fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Encarnacion-Strand blasted a two-run homer to deep left-center in the fifth, cutting the deficit to one. Each club's bullpen tossed up zeros in the sixth and seventh before Lansing plated three insurance runs in the eighth.
Each of the Kernels starters reached base, with eight of nine collecting a hit. Morales had the lone multi-hit night, going 2-for-4.
Cody Laweryson threw well in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless with three strikeouts.
Game four of the series is set for a 7:05 pm ET start on Friday evening in Lansing.
