Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades first pick in the 2018 CHL import draft arrived in Saskatoon early Wednesday morning. The towering defender made his way from the airport to SaskTel Centre to get acquainted with his new team.
"I don't care if it took two or three days to get here, I'm just very excited to be here and get on the ice," stated the 17-year-old from Uppsala, Sweden. Malysjev is fluent in English, Swedish, and Russian. His parents are from Russia but moved to Sweden before Emil was born. He's no stranger to North America having been across the pond three times previously.
Malysjev, who turned 17 in May, is entering his NHL draft year and hopes joining the Saskatoon Blades will give him every opportunity to showcase his talents. He joined the Blades for practice on Wednesday afternoon and wasn't hard to pick out. He stands at 6'3.5" and 188lbs.
"I hope to shut down the oppositions offense and show my passing abilities, I feel I see the ice very well so that will help me help my (offensive) players," added Malysjev.
For now Malysjev is getting settled in and adjusting to the time change before seeing game action, which could come as early as the weekend when the Blades head to Regina on Friday and Saturday for exhibition matches against Moose Jaw and Swift Current.
