EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Emeralds won their third straight game and took the opener of a five-game series with Tri-City, 7-1, on Friday in front of 2,193 at PK Park. The Ems have allowed only two runs over their last 22 innings.
Eugene starter Oscar De La Cruz (1-1) tossed six innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts and four hits allowed. Catcher Tyler Alamo went 2-for-4 and drove in a team-high three runs. Eugene's 2-3-4 hitters combined for six of the Ems' 10 hits (6-for-13) and tallied three runs scored and four RBIs.
The Emeralds scored first in the bottom of the fourth. After outfielder Ian Happ singled with one out, fellow rookie, designated hitter Matt Rose, hit an infield single to put two runners on. A wild pitch moved both up and Alamo drove the pair in with a single to left.
Eugene added three more runs in the fifth, all with two outs. Following a double by outfielder Kevonte Mitchell, outfielder Eloy Jimenez doubled to left to plate a run. Happ singled to center to put two on base before Rose drove in his first professional run with a single to left. Alamo followed suit with another RBI hit, a single up the middle. The Emeralds tacked on two more runs in the sixth when a hard hit ball by Jimenez resulted in an error by the second baseman, scoring shortstop Vimael Machin, who was hit by a pitch, and third baseman Adonis Paula, who singled.
Tri-City got on the board in the seventh, when a wild pitch by Ems reliever Dillon Maples allowed A.J. Kennedy to score from third.
