The Jackals are facing the Komets tonight for the second of seven meetings this season and second of five at First Arena. The Komets are the third North Division team to visit Elmira behind Kalamazoo and Cincinnati in the last two weeks. Elmira was 2-0-0 at home last year against Fort Wayne (2-1-0 overall) with back-to-back wins on March 22 and 23. The Jackals' home win streak against Fort Wayne stretched to three games on the strength of Friday's 4-3 shootout win. Today Fort Wayne is completing its third three-in-three in as many weeks while the Jackals were off yesterday. The Komets are 1-0-1 on the weekend while Elmira is looking for its first three-game win streak of the year.
After surrendering three goals to Fort Wayne on Friday the Jackals' home defense ranks fourth in the Eastern Conference with 24 goals allowed in nine games. That is good for a team goals-against average of 2.67. If the Jackals are able to maintain their current pace they would finish with their second best home defense since joining the ECHL. The record currently belongs to the 2011-12 team that gave up 95 goals in 36 home games (2.64 goals-against average). Backstopping the impressive defense at home is goalie Scott Greenham. He is 3-3-1 at home with a 1.73 goals-against average and .931 save percentage.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return are back on home ice Wednesday, December 11 to take on the Florida Everblades. You could be the lucky fan selected to come onto the ice at intermission and play to win free golf at Willowcreek Wednesday. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
