Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators by a score of 5-3 on Sunday afternoon ending the five-game losing streak.

The first period was dominated by the Road Warriors who had 21 shots on goal. This tied a season high which was established on November 22nd, also against Gwinnett. The Gwinnett Gladiators were able to find the net first however. Marshall Everson scored a power play goal on Scott Stajcer seven minutes into the period. The Road Warriors were able to bounce back when Brad Cole scored on a rebound to even the score at one. The goal was Cole's first in the ECHL since February 22, 2011. The Road Warriors kept up the torrid pace and with over a minute left in the period, Lee Baldwin scored to give Greenville a 2-1 lead. Andrew Rowe and Michael St. Croix collected the helpers. The 2-1 lead would mark the first time Greenville had a lead after one period on home ice.

The Road Warriors had many scoring chances in the second period but Peter Delmas stopped all 19 shots. The Gladiators were able to tie the game at two when Daniel Spivak deflected a shot for his first of the year.

Halfway through the third period, Rowe fired a wrist shot past Delmas to put the Road Warriors up by a 3-2 score. Three minutes later, Justin Vaive scored when he redirected a wristshot from Mike Marcou and the Road Warriors extended their lead to a 4-2 score. Gwinnett would make things interesting in the closing minutes as forward Mike Embach scored off a pass from Everson to bring the score to 4-3. With 40 seconds left in the period, Gwinnett pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Bretton Cameron scored on the empty net to solidify the win for the Road Warriors with a score of 5-3.

Road Warrior goaltender Scott Stajcer made 28 saves and earned his first win with the Road Warriors this season. The Road Warriors outshot their opponents 53 to 31 shots. The 53 shots are the highest in a single game for the Road Warriors this season. The five goals scored also marks the first time the Road Warriors have scored more than three goals since the season opener on October 18th.

Get in the holiday spirit and join the Greenville Road Warriors for the 4th annual Teddy Bear Toss Game on December 13th at 7:00 p.m. presented by WSSL. Bring a stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Road Warriors score their first goal. The Road Warriors are looking to beat last season's donation of over 2000 stuffed animals and encourage fans of all ages to come out to the game for tons of fun and to help a great cause! All stuffed animals collected will be donated to Toys For Tots. Greenville Road Warriors players will deliver the toys to Sitton Buick on Laurens Road on Saturday, December 14th and join members of the U.S. Marines in donating them to children in need.
