El Paso Completes Sweep of Missions

August 14, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - San Antonio Missions News Release

EL PASO - The Chihuahuas scored eight times off Trey Supak in the first inning and finished off a four-game sweep of the Missions with a 14-9 win Tuesday night at Southwest University Park. The loss extended the Missions skid to six games and dropped them into second place, a half game behind Round Rock, for the first time since late May.

Supak, who had been touched for six runs in the sixth inning in his previous start in Albuquerque, walked three and hit a pair of batters while recording only two outs in the opening frame on Tuesday. The eight runs he allowed, which was a career high, all scored with two outs. Former Missions pitcher Jerry Keel even got into the act by singling home a pair of runs in the rally for El Paso.

San Antonio clubbed four homeruns in the game, including a pair from Cory Spangenberg, who drove in four runs. It was his second multi-homer game of the season.

Tyrone Taylor and Jake Hager both doubled and homered. Taylor's fourth inning shot was the team's 172nd of the season, setting a new San Antonio club record, which was established in 1925.

David Freitas went 3-for-5 and drove in a run to extend three different streaks. The Missions catcher extended his on-base streak to 24 games while hitting safely his last 10 contests. He's also driven in at least one run in six straight games.

Since returning from paternity leave on July 27, Freitas leads all of minor league baseball in hits among domestic teams with 32 in 16 games, while hitting .478-6-21. Ricky Alvarez of the Mexican League also has 32 hits during that stretch.

The Missions will hope that returning home Thursday for a quick four game series against New Orleans will be an elixir for the pitching staff, which has surrendered 82 runs over the last nine games, 38 of which have come with two outs in an inning.

Thursday--TBD vs. RH Nick Neidert (3-2, 5.48) 7:05 PM
