Eighth Run Sixth Gives Power Win

Lexington, KY (August 13, 2009) - The West Virginia Power offense registered double digit hits for the fifth game in a row on Thursday night at Applebee's Park and the scored eight of their 12 runs in the sixth inning to score a 12-6 victory over the Lexington Legends, capturing their ninth consecutive road victory.

Tony Sanchez's first of three hits on the night was a run scoring double in the top of the first inning. He scored later in the frame on Quincy Latimore's two-out base hit. The Power took a 3-0 lead in the second when Danny Bomback belted his second homer of the season, a solo shot off Robert Bono. The Legends answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Russell Dixon reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Brian Pellegrini to score and Reinaldo Pestana belted a two-out single to plate the final run of the inning.

West Virginia pulled away with a huge sixth inning. They scored eight times on five hits. The first three runs came on singles from Jeremy Farrell, Bobby Spain and Austin McClune. Robbie Grossman hit a groundball through the legs of Lexington second baseman Albert Cartwright, and the error plated two more runs before Sanchez capped the big inning with a three-run shot, his fifth of the season.

The Legends responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Marques Williams smoked a two-run double down the right field line to plate the first run before Russell Dixon scored on Brandon Wikoff's sacrifice fly. Albert Cartwright smacked a two-run double to cap the big inning. Kyle Morgan drove in the game's final run on an opposite field solo shot in the top of the ninth inning.

Noah Krol (4-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits and struck out four batters in a winning effort. Robert Bono (8-8) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits over five and a third. Brett Lorin started the game for the Power but was removed after just two innings, allowing a pair of runs on two hits. Casey Erickson finished the game for the Power with a pair of scoreless innings.

West Virginia improved to 52-61 overall, and 25-18 in the second half after the victory, while the Legends fell to 56-60 overall and 20-26 in the second half after the loss. Tony Sanchez paced the Power with a 3-for-5 performance and drove in four runs. The first round pick from Boston College is 11-for-22 on the road trip with eight runs and 12 RBI. Greg Picart and Jeremy Farrell also chipped in with two hits a piece. Picart leads the team with 13 hits on the road trip and has hit safely in his last 10 games. He's recorded multiple hits in his last six games. Farrell extended his hitting streak to six games. Grossman's single in the first inning extended his on base streak to 22 games. Kyle Morgan's ninth inning homer extended his hitting streak to six games. Every Power player in the starting nine hit safely and scored at least once.

West Virginia will continue the four game series with the Lexington Legends at Applebee's Park on Friday night. The Power will start right hander Hunter Strickland (2-0, 1.59) and the Lexington Legends will counter with right hander Ross Seaton (8-9, 2.89). The first pitch will be delivered at 7:05 PM.
