BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Hickory Crawdads fell in the opener against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 3-1, before 2,922 fans at Bowling Green Ballpark on Thursday night.

The Hot Rods (25-19, 59-55) got on the board first, striking for an earned run in the second and an unearned run in the third against RHP Jake Brigham (2-7). Hickory, however, responded with a run in the top of the fourth against LHP Matt Moore (8-4) to get on the board and cut the deficit in half.

CF Cody Podraza led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a single by 2B Mike Hollander. RF Eric Fry, who entered the game as a defensive substitution for 1B Erik Morrison in the bottom of the third, then ripped a double down the right field line to score Podraza and make it 2-1.

Brigham kept it just a one-run Bowling Green lead with a scoreless fourth, before giving way to RHP Carlos Pimentel in the fifth. Pimentel posted scoreless frames through the fifth and the sixth, before Bowling Green struck for an unearned run on a squeeze bunt laid down by CF Anthony Scelfo in the bottom of the seventh, stretching the lead back out to two tallies, 3-1.

Pimentel got back on track with a scoreless eighth inning to keep it just a two-run deficit, but the Bowling Green bullpen refused to allow the Crawdads (21-24, 54-60) to come any closer, as LHP Josh Satow closed the 3-1 win for the Hot Rods with a scoreless top of the ninth. Brigham was tagged with the loss, while Moore earned the win and Satow registered the save for Bowling Green.
