GENEVA, Ill. - Brett Eibner hit a dramatic, go-ahead three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning on Thursday night to give the Kane County Cougars their first lead of the night and lead the team to a 4-3 victory over the Beloit Snappers in the opener of a six-game home stand at Elfstrom Stadium. The win moved the Cougars into sole possession first place, one game ahead of Beloit after a week of 2nd Half action.

Eibner's homer came off Michael Tonkin (3-2) with Julio Aparicio and Angel Franco on base, and it took the Cougars from a 3-1 deficit to a 4-3 lead. It was Eibner's fifth homer in seven games and the Cougars' 13th homer in seven games. The Cougars, who averaged six runs and 11.7 hits per game during their six-game road trip, had scored one run on three hits to that point.

Starter Jason Adam gave up two runs -- one earned -- in the fifth inning and ended up with a no-decision. He yielded four hits, walked one, hit two batters and struck out four in five frames. Aparicio singled in Orlando Calixte in the bottom of the fifth to get the Cougars on the board, but Beloit went up, 3-1, in the top of the eighth with a run against Allen Caldwell (2-0). Caldwell tossed three relief innings and fanned five in the win, and Nick Rogers logged a 1-2-3 ninth to get the save in his Cougars debut.
