Eflin Dominant as Pigs Blank Chiefs, 3-0

RHP Zach Eflin tossed seven shutout innings as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-18) blanked the Syracuse Chiefs (20-18) by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday morning at Coca-Cola Park.

Eflin (5-0) surrendered two hits while walking one and fanning six in his 7.0 IP. RHP Edubray Ramos (1.0 IP, H, K) and RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, H, K) combined to get the final six outs for the Pigs. Mujica notched his 10th save of the season.

In the bottom of the third, Carlos Alonso (2-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) led off with a double, advanced to third on a sac bunt and scored on Taylor Featherston's (2-4, 2B, R) two-out RBI double to give the Pigs a 1-0 lead.

Alonso's two-run shot off of Syracuse starter Paolo Espino in the bottom of the fifth opened up a 3-0 advantage for the IronPigs. The home run was Alonso's first of the season and his first since August 23, 2014 with Reading (AA).

Espino (1-4) allowed the three runs on five hits while walking four and fanning seven in his six innings of work.

The Pigs will open a four-game set with the Toledo Mud Hens on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (2-2, 4.42) will be on the bump for Lehigh Valley against Toledo RHP Buck Farmer (0-2, 5.25).
