Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Cranbrook, B.C. - The Edmonton Oil Kings offense got suddenly cold in a Saturday night game against the Kootenay Ice. The Oil Kings suffered their third straight loss after dropping a 5 nothing decision to the Ice in Cranbrook. Dustin Sylvester and Kevin King each scored a pair of goals in a game the Ice broke open with a pair of powerplay markers late in the second period. The win Kootenay avenges the loss the last time these two teams met when the Oil Kings shut out the Ice 4 - 0 at Rexall Place a few weeks ago.
Sylvester scored the first two goals of the game late in the second period and then again midway through the hockey game. The score was only 2 nothing but the game was much more lopsided on the shot clock than that. The Ice peppered 16 year old rookie goalie Cam Lanigan all night including a season high 23 shots on goal in the second period. By the end of the game, Kootenay outshot Edmonton 45 - 13. That was Edmonton's second lowest shot total this season.
Ice forward Andrew Bailey scored less than 2 minutes after Sylvester to make the score 3 - 0 and then the wheels came off for Edmonton when they surrendered 2 powerplay goals in the last 2 minutes of the second period to make the final score 5 - 0.
That's just the second time the Oil Kings have been shut out this season and their record drops to 9-13-1-3. Meanwhile, that's the first time the Kootenay has beaten Edmonton this season and their record improves to 12-9-2-3. The Oil Kings currently trail the Ice and Medicine Hat Tigers by 7 points in the Central Division standings.
Next up for Edmonton will be the first meeting of the season against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. It will also be the end of 3 games in 3 nights in 3 different cities for the Oil Kings. The next home game is not until Saturday November 22nd when they host the Prince Albert Raiders. It's free Mini-Stick Night. We'll be giving away 5000 Oil Kings mini-sticks.
