Eddie Dennis Jr. Records First Win in Game 2 of Doubleheader

EDINBURG - Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings starter Eddie Dennis Jr. picked up his first professional win by holding the Edinburg Roadrunners to two runs on six hits while striking out two in a 4-2 in seven innings of Game 2 of a doubleheader on Thursday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Dennis (1-0) allowed one hit in each of the first four innings while holding the Roadrunners (19-23) 0-4 with runners in scoring position. R.J. Harris led off the fifth with a double and Steven Wright was hit by a pitch. One out after a balk advanced the runners, C.J. Beatty hit a two-run single to make it 3-2.

The WhiteWings (22-19) added insurance in the top of the seventh on an RBI-double by Antonio DeJesus.

Edgar Martinez pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh for his 13th save.

The WhiteWings struck right away against Blake Parry (1-2). Francisco Santana drew a leadoff walk and DeJesus hit an RBI-double to make it 1-0.

With one out in the second, Gabriel Ortiz singled and moved to third on a single by Brandon Decker to set-up a sacrifice-fly from Santana, making it 2-0.

In the third, Gerardo Avila hit his fifth home run of the season to make it 3-0.

That was it against Parry, who struck out a season-high seven in a season-high five and two-thirds innings of his first start of the season.

The WhiteWings and Roadrunners play game three of this five-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (4-3, 7.79) is expected to face left-hander James Giulietti (0-1, 2.57).
