
Roadrunners Comeback to Defeat 'Wings

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind and defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 6-4 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Brandon Decker got on the WhiteWings (22-20) on the scoreboard in the top of the second with an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Wilmer Pino to score giving them the 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners (20-23) tied things at one with some help from the RGV defense. A fielding error by the shortstop allowed R.J. Harris to score from second.
In the bottom of the third, Robert Matlock scored on a double play off the bat of Osiel Flores that gave Edinburg the 2-1 lead.
Wellington Dotel hit his fifth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth extending the Roadrunners lead 3-1.
RGV answered back with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Carl Johnson led off with a single and then came into score on throwing error. One out later, Antonio De Jesus hit an RBI single scoring Brandon Decker from third tying the game at three.
The WhiteWings grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth when Pino, who led off the inning with a single, stole home plate making it 4-3.
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Edinburg made a comeback against RGV reliever Danny Rondon. Matlock and Gabe Memmert hit back-to-back singles and then Osiel Flores hit an RBI single to center that allowed pinch runner Adam Gordon to score tying the game at four. With runners at second and third, Stantrel Smith hit a two-run single scoring Memmert and Flores giving the Roadrunners the 6-4 lead.
Julio Castro struck out the side in the top of the ninth giving Edinburg the comeback 6-4 win.
Corey Goudeau (2-5) picked up the victory after pitching two scoreless innings and striking out two.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will continue their series as they shit the series to Harlingen on Saturday night at Harlingen Field. Aaron Guerra (4-4) is expected to face Eric Blackwell (2-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
