Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO- Pitcher Jason Stevenson (4-0) strikes out eleven in a season-long eight innings to give the Outlaws a 13-5 victory.
The Edmonton Capitals kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning. A lead-off single by Lou Santangelo set up three straight singles starting two batters later. The consecutive hits plated Santangelo and Enrique Cruz to put the Capitals on top 2-0.
The Outlaws would whittle the lead down to tie at two apiece in the next half inning. A Brian McFall single and a walk to Jake Rife would put runners on first and second for Will Wright. Wright would hit the second single of the inning to give the Outlaws their first run of the game. McFall came around to score on a Danny Gonzalez fielder's choice to tie the game.
After the Capitals put up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a 4-2 lead, the Outlaws roared back with two impressive innings of their own. In fact, the Outlaws knotted the game up on one swing of the bat. In the sixth inning, after Al Quintana reached with a single, Brian McFall hit a three run blast to left field to tie the game at four.
The Outlaws would take the lead for good in the very next inning. After the Capitals scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh, the Outlaws poured on four to take a commanding 8-5 lead. Pitcher Jason Stevenson helped his own cause by leading off the inning with a single to centerfield. He and the next hitter, Kurt Steinhauer, who reached base with a single of his own, later came around to score on a throwing error by Capitals pitcher Alexander Francisco. The inning continued to get out of hand for the Capitals after Chris Lubanski was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second base. The next two batters would pick up an RBI each on two straight singles; giving the Outlaws an 8-5 lead.
Chico slammed the door shut on the Capitals with a five-run eighth inning. The Outlaws would bat around in the inning, collecting five hits, including a two-out, two RBI double off the bat of Jake Rife.
The Outlaws second consecutive win puts them in a position to take the series from the Edmonton Capitals with two more wins on Saturday and Sunday before heading off to Chicago to face the Lake County Fielders.
