San Jose Earthquakes News Release


The San Jose Earthquakes earned a dramatic 3-3 home draw against the Columbus Crew last Saturday at PayPal Park despite playing a man down for the final 57 minutes plus stoppage time. Defender Francisco Calvo scored two goals after the 80th minute, including the equalizer six minutes into stoppage time. Midfielder Cristian Espinoza also scored for the Quakes via penalty kick, while midfielder Jan Gregus tallied an assist on both of Calvo's goals.

The Earthquakes will now hit the road for their first away match of the season against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March 12. Kickoff from Subaru Park is set for 4:30 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast on NBC Sports Bay Area Plus, KNBR 1050, and 1370 KZSF.

San Jose now holds a 12-6-6 record against Columbus at home and remains undefeated at PayPal Park when hosting them (2-0-2).

Extending a Record

After Saturday's result, the Earthquakes are unbeaten in eight straight home matches against Columbus (4-0-4) dating back to August 2009. The eight-game run is San Jose's longest active home unbeaten run against any single MLS opponent.

Defying the Odds

The Quakes scored two goals while down a man for the first time since June 29, 2013 vs. the LA Galaxy.

Midfielder Jan Gregus tallied two assists, his first two assists of the season and 20th and 21st assists of his MLS career.

The Earthquakes hold a 4-4-4 record in 12 regular season matchups against Philadelphia, including a 2-2-2 away record.

On the Road

The Quakes have only suffered one loss in their last four road games against the Union (1-1-2).

Been a While

San Jose will face Philadelphia for the first time since Sept. 25, 2019, where the Earthquakes fell 2-1 at PayPal Park. Midfielder Jackson Yueill scored the Quakes' only goal.

Looking for the Win

The Quakes, who are in search of their first win of the season, are also seeking their first victory over the Union since Sept. 8, 2013 (W 1-0 at Buck Shaw Stadium).
