Revolution Host Pumas UNAM in SCCL Quarterfinal

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution begin their 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quest against Mexican side Pumas UNAM in Leg 1 of the Quarterfinal Round on Wednesday night. The match kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium and airs nationally on FS2 and TUDN, and locally on the radio via 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.

Wednesday's contest marks the Revolution's first match in international play since 2010, when the club finished as runners-up in the North American SuperLiga. New England last appeared in Concacaf Champions League in 2008 are 0-2-0 all-time in the continental tournament. The Revolution, who own one international trophy in club history, the 2008 North American SuperLiga title, advanced to the SCCL Quarterfinals after Haitian side Cavaly AS' withdrew from the tournament in the Round of 16. New England is one of four MLS teams remaining in the competition alongside CF Montreal, Seattle Sounders, and New York City FC.

Bruce Arena, who became the winningest coach in MLS regular-season history with last Saturday's 1-0 win over FC Dallas, will guide his third different team into a Concacaf club competition. The fourth-year Revolution head coach won the tournament, then known as the Concacaf Champions Cup, in 1998 with D.C. United. Arena owns a 15-9-6 career record in Concacaf club tournaments.

Omar Gonzalez leads New England with 28 appearances in Concacaf Champions League play, most recently featuring for Toronto FC in the tournament in 2021. The veteran defender won the tournament in 2017, as a member of Mexican side C.F. Pachuca. A.J. DeLaGarza owns 24 appearances in the continental tournament, while fellow center back Andrew Farrell enters the tournament just one appearance shy of his 300th game played the Revolution across all competitions. In the attack, Jozy Altidore owns a team-best three goals scored in SCCL action. Reigning MLS MVP Carles Gil remains in top form with one goal and one assist through the team's first two MLS games in 2022.

Pumas sealed its berth in the Quarterfinal following a 6-3 aggregate victory over Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa in Round of 16. Argentinian forward Juan Ignacio Dinenno, a former teammate of Revs striker Gustavo Bou at Racing Club, led the Pumas attack with three goals in the Round of 16. The Liga MX club owns three CCL titles, most recently in 1989.
