Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MEXICO CITY, Mexico - CF Montréal continues its intercontinental journey this Wednesday at 10pm ET against Cruz Azul at Estadio Azteca in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals (91.9 Sports, TSN690.ca, OneSoccer).

This will be a first-ever clash between Montreal and Cruz Azul, which won the competition in 2014, with runner-up outings in 2009 and 2010. The Mexican club currently sits in fifth place in the Clausura standings, after drawing 2-2 with Tigres UANL on March 2 and suffering a 3-1 loss on March 5 to reigning Liga MX champion Puebla.

The Montrealers will face a second Mexican club after defeating Santos Laguna 3-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16. The Mexicans earned their ticket to this round by defeating Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League 4-1 on aggregate.

CF Montréal last reached the quarterfinal stage in 2020, but saw its run ended by Honduran club CD Olimpia, which advanced on away goals (2-2). This will also be a second visit to the Estadio Azteca in the Club's history, after reaching the tournament final against Club América on April 22, 2015. Montreal managed a 1-1 draw on the road, before losing 2-4 at the Olympic Stadium in the return leg.

Individual tickets for the return leg, scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, at the Olympic Stadium, are on sale beginning at $20 (plus applicable tax) exclusively through the Club website.
