San Jose Earthquakes News Release
The San Jose Earthquakes are preparing for their second and third group stage matches of the MLS is Back Tournament against Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Wednesday, July 15 (6:00 p.m. PT; TUDN) , presented by CEFCU, and Chicago Fire FC on Sunday, July 19 (5:00 p.m. PT; FS1, TUDN), presented by Sutter Health. These two matches will see the conclusion of the group stage for the Quakes, all three matches of which count towards the MLS regular-season standings.
In their first match of the competition, the Earthquakes earned a point in a scoreless draw against the reigning MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC on Friday evening. The match was the Quakes' first since March 7. The Earthquakes were supported by fans back in San Jose with two viewing parties at Earthquakes Stadium and more than 70 vehicles in attendance. The Quakes have also launched Pledge 74 last week, a unique club-wide community initiative to tackle food insecurity concerns in the South Bay over the next 18 months. The club has already raised over $50,000 towards food support, and have held events to feed frontline workers in local communities. For more information and to get involved, click here.

NEXT GAME VS. VANCOUVER
Record vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
The Quakes currently hold a 6-8-9 record vs. Vancouver in 23 MLS matches between the two clubs.
Season Sweep
San Jose completed a season sweep last year over Vancouver for the first time in club history. It also marked the first time San Jose defeated Vancouver in two straight meetings, each by a score of 3-1.
Year of Success
The Earthquakes set an MLS record with 43 shots against Vancouver on Aug. 24, 2019.
Salinas Approaching History
Midfielder Shea Salinas enters Wednesday's matchup against Vancouver with 46 assists in his Quakes career, just one behind San Jose's all-time leader Ronald Cerritos (47). Salinas needs just one more assist to tie Cerritos' mark, and two to surpass it for a new franchise record.
Pursuing Another Record
Shea Salinas' 13 game-winning assists is just one shy of the club record held by Richard Mulrooney (14).
NEXT GAME VS. CHICAGO
Reliving History
Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski became Major League Soccer's all-time leading goal-scorer after tallying a remarkable four goals in last season's 4-1 win over Chicago at Earthquakes Stadium. Wondolowski tied and later surpassed Landon Donovan's all-time scoring record of 145. He currently has 159 goals in his MLS career.
Scoring against Chicago
Among all active players in MLS against Chicago Fire FC, Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski ranks second in goals (10), tied with Bradley Wright-Phillips and one goal behind active leader Kei Kamara (11).
100 Matches
Forward Danny Hoesen will reach 100 appearances for the Quakes should he appear in each of the the next two matches. Hoesen currently has 98 appearances for San Jose and in MLS.
Approaching History
With one goal, Vako would become the sixth player in Quakes history to reach 25 goals, tying Brian Ching for the same number of goals.
LAST GAME
125 Days Later
Friday's match marked the Quakes' first professional match after a 125-day stoppage. San Jose's previous match was against Minnesota United FC on March 7 at Earthquakes Stadium.
Security in Goal
Daniel Vega recorded his first clean sheet of the season and eighth of his MLS career.He made six saves in the shutout, tied for the second most in a single game during his MLS career.
Controlling the Match
San Jose showed dominance throughout the match, recording more than 62% possession and 16 total shots.
Starting Young
Sixteen-year-old Cade Cowell made his second MLS appearance, entering as a substitute in the 85th minute.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
MLS Announces Time Change for Earthquakes Match vs. Vancouver
Major League Soccer announced last Sunday that the San Jose Earthquakes' next match on Wednesday, July 15 vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, which was originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PT, will now kick off at 6 p.m. PT. The match, presented by CEFCU, will air on TUDN and Twitter, KNBR 1050, 1370 KZSF and TuneIn Radio.
RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
Reno 1868 FC announced last Tuesday that the club's road match at Tacoma Defiance on August 19 has been moved to July 23. With the road game, Reno will re-start the season with four straight games away from home. To view Reno's updated schedule, click here.
With the change, eight of Reno's final 11 games will come from Greater Nevada Field. Reno's season restarts on July 19 at Sacramento Republic FC, in a game that will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN2.
Reno 1868 FC also announced last Monday that the club had reached an agreement with New Mexico United on a season-long loan agreement for goalkeeper Ben Beaury, pending league and federation approval.
Beaury is in his third year playing in the USL, spending last season with New Mexico after starting his career in Charlotte in 2018. Beaury attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, earning Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team and Goalkeeper of the Year honors. In his senior season, he racked up 86 saves and a 1.01 goals allowed average in 10 appearances.
