Earthquakes Topple English Premier League's West Brom, 2-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes defeated West Bromwich Albion of the English Premier League 2-1 in an international friendly on Tuesday at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Quakes goalkeeper David Bingham had the play of the night, sending the ball over 90 yards for a goal after the ball bounced over West Brom net minder Boaz Myhill in the third minute (VIDEO). Khari Stephenson tacked on the eventual game winner in the 45th minute, smashing a shot from 35 yards that darted past Myhill just before the half to give San Jose a 2-0 lead. Jerome Thomas scored the lone goal for West Brom eight minutes into the second half.
The win was San Jose's first against an English Premier League opponent. The Quakes previously drew 0-0 against club partner Tottenham Hotspur on July 17, 2010 at Buck Shaw Stadium and tied 1-1 against Aston Villa on May 13, 1997 at Spartan Stadium.
The Earthquakes return to league play this weekend as they head to Columbus to face the Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday, July 16. The match is set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT and will air live on Comcast SportsNet Plus, 1220 KDOW (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
