San Jose Earthquakes News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes will host the Earthquakes 35th Anniversary Reunion this Sunday, August 2 when they play Seattle Sounders FC at Buck Shaw Stadium at noon. Former players, coaches and staff from the North American Soccer League will be honored this weekend. Members of the NASL Earthquakes will be in San Jose all weekend to participate in a number of activities, including a golf tournament, a reunion game on Saturday, August 1, and a ceremony at the Earthquakes-Sounders game on Sunday, August 2.

The Earthquakes originally started play in 1974 as part of the NASL and played through the 1984 season. Following the end of the NASL, the Quakes continued play in the Western Soccer Alliance from 1985-88. Members of both of those eras will be on hand for the festivities this weekend.

The reunion game with former NASL Earthquake players will take place on Saturday, August first at 11 a.m. at the San Jose State University practice field across the street from Spartan Stadium.

At the Earthquakes game on August 2 all former NASL players in attendance will be honored at halftime in a very special ceremony. There will also be an appearance at the match by Krazy George, who started his career with the NASL Earthquakes. At the conclusion of the game, the inaugural "NASL Heritage Cup" will be presented to members of the supporter's groups of the winning team. The Heritage Cup is contested by teams who celebrate the history of North American soccer by taking their names from the franchises their cities held in the NASL.

The final event of this anniversary weekend will be the postgame party at Double D's Sports Grille in Los Gatos. Join the current Quakes players, coaches and staff, along with players from the NASL side.
