San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has renamed the street previously known as Champions Way to Wondo Way in celebration of Major League Soccer's all-time leading scorer Chris Wondolowski.
"It's an amazing honor," said Wondolowski. "I always have and always will be part of the San Jose community. It's who I am. It's amazing to now be permanently intertwined with it."
Wondo Way is immediately adjacent to PayPal Park and runs perpendicular to Earthquakes Way, along the team's training field and newly built parking structures.
"Wondo is a legend for the San Jose Earthquakes and Major League Soccer," said Earthquakes Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee. "Wondo Way is the primary walkway that fans use to get to and from PayPal Park, so it's a special symbol for us to honor the connection he has built with Quakes fans throughout his career."
Wondolowski, 38, holds the MLS record for career goals (166), goals for one club (162), game-winning goals (45), and goals in 1-0 victories (14), among many others. He is a five-time All-Star selection (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019), two-time Golden Boot Award winner (2010, 2012), and was named the 2012 MLS MVP after tying the league's then scoring record with 27 goals.
In December 2020, Wondolowski was named to The 25 Greatest , the league's unranked list of the best 25 players in MLS history.
