LA Galaxy News Release
LOS ANGELES - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has signed French winger Kévin Cabral from Valenciennes FC in France's Ligue 2. Cabral, 21, joins the Galaxy after notching 70 appearances, 13 goals and 10 assists across various competitions in France since 2018. Cabral, who joins on a five-year contract with a one-year option, was acquired as a Young Designated Player and will be added to the club's roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
"Kévin is a young and dynamic player who will give us versatility in the attack," said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. "He is an emerging talent and has shown to be a bright prospect in France. At 21 years of age, he will continue to grow and develop as a player within our club. We are excited that such a young talent has chosen the Galaxy as the next destination in his career. We look forward to welcoming him to Los Angeles and for his contributions as a member of our organization."
The LA Galaxy traded $250,000 in General Allocation Money, a 2022 MLS SuperDraft first-round selection plus future performance based incentives to FC Cincinnati in exchange for the discovery priority for Cabral.
Born in Paris, Cabral originally was a part of the Paris Saint-German youth system before signing with Valenciennes FC permanently in 2017. In all, Cabral's 70 appearances for Valenciennes FC span across Ligue 2, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue competition, where he became a key part of the club's attack with 13 goals and 10 assists. He joins the Galaxy after tallying seven goals and five assists in the current campaign, where he has made 29 appearances in league play.
Cabral made his professional debut with Valenciennes in October 2018 as an 18-year old during a league match against US Orléans. He played three total seasons of Ligue 2 since his debut, scoring 10 goals and adding seven assists during that span, while adding an additional three goals in separate competitions.
Cabral is the youngest Designated Player in LA Galaxy club history. Cabral signs with the LA Galaxy following the club's acquisitions of midfielder Victor Vázquez, winger Samuel Grandsir (AS Monaco), defender Derrick Williams (Blackburn Rovers F.C.), midfielder Carlos Harvey (Tauro F.C.), defender Oniel Fisher (free agent), defender Jorge Villafaña (Portland Timbers), goalkeeper Jonathan Bond (West Bromwich Albion F.C.), defender Marcus Ferkranus (LA Galaxy Academy), midfielder Adam Saldaña (LA Galaxy Academy) and defender Jalen Neal (LA Galaxy Academy) and the signing of goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann to a new contract.
