Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Hagerstown, MD - The Augusta GreenJackets used early power - a lot of it - in a 14-6 thumping of the Hagerstown Suns on Friday night. Chris Dominguez, Tommy Joseph, Luke Anders and Ryan Cavan all hit home runs for Augusta in the blowout win.

Dominguez, Joseph and Anders all hit their blasts in the first inning and all three were tape-measure shots. Dominguez's homer cleared a 30-foot fence in dead center and landed about 40 feet off ground level in a tree beyond the fence and across the street from the ballpark. Joseph cleared at the deepest part of the park in left center - around 420 feet from home plate - and over the same 30-foot high wall. Anders sent his shot into the bullpen in right center - the second time in as many games he's homered there - on a home run that fell about six feet shy of leaving the park entirely.

Ryan Cavan brought in a run on an RBI single in the second and another on a solo home run in the fourth, but the rout really wasn't on until the sixth inning. After Hagerstown got on the board with a run in the fourth, Augusta sent ten men to the plate and scored six times in the sixth to bring the lead to double digits for the first time. Nick Liles doubled home two runs in the inning that saw an RBI hit from Sharlon Schoop and sacrifice flies from Joseph and Anders.

The Suns scored a couple in the sixth on Justin Bloxom's two-run double, but by then the game was decided. Daniel Cook doubled home two more for the Jackets in the ninth and the Suns put up three meaningless runs in garbage time to net the final margin of victory for Augusta.

Kyle Vazquez turned in another solid start for the GreenJackets, becoming the first Augusta starter to earn his third win of the season. Vazquez (3-0) allowed three runs - two earned - in 5.1 innings on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Suns starter Josh Smoker (0-4) was pounded early and often, departing after just two innings in which he surrendered five runs on six hits and served up three home runs.

GreenJackets hitters reached base in some way, shape or form in all nine innings and the Jackets picked up hits in eight of the nine frames of the ballgame. Their 18 hits are more than they recorded in the first two games combined of this series with the Suns. Every member of the Augusta starting nine reached base at least once.

Chris Heston (1-1, 4.74) takes the ball in the series and road trip finale to face Hagerstown's Trevor Holder (0-1, 3.86). With the win, the GreenJackets will earn the series sweep and salvage a 4-4 road trip. First pitch will come at 6:35 p.m. in Hagerstown with the pregame action beginning at 6:20 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
