Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

After four straight losses, the Kannapolis Intimidators are back in the win column as they belted out 12 hits and scored seven runs on the Lakewood BlueClaws as they won 7-3 on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The win is just the fourth at home this season in 15 games played in Kannapolis.

The BlueClaws (13-10) got on the board first as Darin Ruf hit a solo home run off starter Joe Serafin in the second inning. Serafin (3-2) only allowed two runs, both on solo home runs and lasted a season-long seven innings as well as recording a season-high eight strikeouts. The other home run was hit by Leandro Castro in the fifth inning.

The Intimidators (10-13) tied the game in the fourth as Ian Gac hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Kyle Colligan after he tripled to lead off the inning but their big inning was the fifth. In the fifth inning, the Intimidators scored four runs, all with two outs. With a runner on, Daniel Wagner hit a bloop single and went to second on a stolen base. He was then singled in by Miguel Gonzalez. Then in his second at-bat of the game Colligan hit his second home run of the season, making it a 5-2 lead for the Intimidators.

Kannapolis would then add two more in the sixth, on a RBI-double down the left field line by Jose Vargas, who had three hits, and he scored on a triple by Wagner who also had three hits. Colligan ended the game a double shy of the cycle.

Matt Way (0-3) started the game and went 4.2 innings in the loss his third of the season in as many decisions. Ryan Buch pitched the final two innings and allowed an earned run in the eighth.

The final game of the series will occur on Saturday at 7:05 pm as the Intimidators look for the series split before their first scheduled off day of the season, which will be spent on a bus to Lexington, KY. Terry Doyle (2-1) will take his 1.08 ERA to the mound against Brody Colvin (1-3), who is in search of better fortunes.
