Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - Runs in the first three innings set the tone in a 13-2 loss by the Biloxi Shuckers (58-66, 24-33 2nd Half) to the Mississippi Braves (59-65, 25-32 2nd Half) on Tuesday night at MGM Park.
The M-Braves struck for the first run with a lead-off homer by Cody Milligan, his first of the year. A two-run double by Milligan in the second gave Mississippi a 3-0 lead, and the M-Braves would explode for five runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs, in the top of the third, widening their advantage to 8-0.
Biloxi struck back for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Jason Lopez reached on a throwing error and two batters later, Felix Valerio singled to center, his second hit of the night, to drive in Lopez. Valerio then swiped second base and Garrett Whitley singled him home to make it 8-2.
After Mississippi added on another run in the fifth, the Shuckers put two men on base thanks to a double by Whitley and a hit by pitch from RHP Allan Winans (W, 1-4) of Thomas Dillard. The Shuckers executed the double steal, but Winans got a strikeout and a groundout to leave two men on base.
The M-Braves padded their lead with a three-run homer by Jalen Miller in the top of the seventh. The Shuckers managed a lead-off single in the sixth, seventh and eighth but hit into three different double plays to cancel out the runners.
Biloxi continues their six-game series against the M-Braves on Wednesday night at MGM Park. RHP Carlos Luna (4-4, 5.21) is set to take the hill for the Shuckers while Mississippi will counter with LHP Dylan Dodd (0-4, 3.22) for a 6:35 pm first pitch. The game can be seen on MiLB.TV and heard locally on WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 or online here.
