RED DEER, Alberta - Brett Davis and Keaton Sorensen combined for six points in the third period to help the Red Deer Rebels rally past the Everett Silvertips, 6-2 on Monday night at Westerner Park Centrium before 4,128 fans in WHL action.

Wyatte Wylie and Aidan Sutter (first career WHL goal) scored for the Tips, who built a 2-0 lead into the second period. The Tips power play went 1-of-3 in the loss, and are 11 of their last 24 on the man advantage.

UP NEXT: The Tips six-game trip (1-1) continues on New Year's Day against the Edmonton Oil Kings, a battle of first place teams opening at 1:05 p.m. (KRKO / Tips App / WHL Live) at Rogers Place and return home Sunday, Jan. 12 against the Regina Pats at 4:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale for the Jan. 12 home game, the next Siegen Family Fun Zone event. The first several hundred fans in attendance will take away a Tips beanie presented by BECU.

Wyatte Wylie kicked off the scoring with a power play goal 9:01 into the first period, firing a bullet from the left circle as the Tips outshot Red Deer, 13-9 and commanded the attack in the last 15 minutes. At the 11:53 mark of the second period, Silvertips rookie Aidan Sutter scored his first WHL goal on a rebound in front of Rebels netminder Byron Fancy. The 2002-born Sutter got his first goal in his 26th game of the season and finished tonight one assist short of a Gordie Howe hat trick.

Red Deer got their first goal 12:58 into the second period as Chris Douglas put home his 8th of the season to cut the Rebels deficit to one. With a little over three minutes left in the second period, the Rebels would find the back of the net once again as Josh Tarzwell tied the game to make it a 2-2 game after 40 minutes. Red Deer goalie Byron Fancy made 17 saves in the frame to keep his team in the game while Everett's goalie, Keegan Karki, had 21 saves combined through two periods.

The third was all Red Deer with Chase Leslie getting the eventual game-winner just over three and a half minutes into the period. Some would call the Rebels fourth goal lucky when Keaton Sorensen scored essentially an empty-net goal as the puck took a weird deflection off the sidewall and Keegan Karki vacated his net expecting a rimmed puck, leading to Red Deer's goal. The Rebels would go on to score two official empty-net goals, including Davis and Sorenson getting his second of the night, as Red Deer finished with the 6-2 win.

Byron Fancy got the first star for making 31 saves on 33 shots. Keaton Sorenson finished with two goals and an assist, which earned him the second star, and Rebels Assistant Captain Brett Davis got the third star after scoring a goal and two assists. Another notable player from Red Deer in this game was Arshdeep Bains, who just had one assist but a significant physical presence all night. On the Silvertips side, Karki made 32 saves on 36 shots in the loss. Jake Christiansen got another two assists and since returning to Everett, is averaging over a point per game (16 points in 10 games). Cole Fonstad and Gage Goncalves each had an assist to their name as Fonstad has five points in his last two games while Goncalves has four points in that same time period.
