Fayetteville, NC - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers (8-10) never recovered after allowing three runs in the top of the first inning and ultimately dropped a fourth straight game in a 7-3 defeat to the Down East Wood Ducks (10-8) on Friday night at Segra Stadium.

Trey Dombroski (L, 1-1) tied a season-high with eight strikeouts but was tagged for six runs over his four innings of work. After the three-run first inning, Abi Ortiz added a sacrifice fly in the second to jump the Down East lead to 4-0. In the fourth, Jojo Blackmon and Ortiz connected for solo home runs that broke things open at 6-zip.

The home run ball continued to fly once Ian Foggo entered the game and Tucker Mitchell led off the fifth inning with a solo home run, saddling Fayetteville with their largest deficit of the night at 7-0. Foggo closed the fifth by retiring three in a row following the home run and turned the ball over to Nolan DeVos in the sixth.

DeVos stalled out the Down East offense for the remainder of the night, hurling four scoreless innings, striking out five, and allowing just two hits.

Fayetteville's offense tallied just one hit over the first six innings of the game. Down East starter Brock Porter dominated over four hitless innings and struck out seven before departing. Matt Brosky pitched a clean fifth and sixth, but ran into trouble as Fayetteville rallied in the seventh with three consecutive RBI doubles from Ricardo Balogh, Leosdany Molina and Ryan Clifford.

The big seventh inning cut the game to 7-3, but Jackson Kelly and Jackson Leath (W, 1-1) killed off the Fayetteville momentum with a scoreless eighth and ninth.

The series continues Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 pm in downtown Fayetteville. Fayetteville is scheduled to start RHP Tyler Guilfoil (1-0, 1.54 ERA) and Down East will start RHP Aiden Curry (0-1, 2.84 ERA).
