Eagles Lose Final Game 8-4 to Arizona

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz.- The Colorado Eagles were defeated by the Arizona Sundogs 8-4 Saturday night in the final regular season game at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The Eagles finished their season 46-17-1 for a total of 93 points and their most wins in franchise history. The Eagles are still awaiting the outcome of Sunday's games to determine their opponent for the first round of the playoffs. If the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs lose in regulation or overtime on Sunday, the Eagles are the number one seed. Daniel Laperriere opened the scoring at the 10:24 mark of the first period on a power play goal giving the Sundogs a 1-0 lead. Eagles power forward Ryan Tobler answered the goal just over a minute later to tie the game. The Eagles outshot the Sundogs 10-8 in the period, however the teams were tied at one.

Arizona scored a total of seven goals in the second period while outshooting the Eagles 20-4. Colorado had not given up more than five goals in a period in team history before this night. Brent Kelly scored a shorthanded goals 37 seconds into the period to take a 2-1 lead over the Eagles. Max Gordichuck, Karl Sellan, Chris Bartalone, Daniel Laperreire, and Adam Campell all scored goals to give the Sundogs a 7-1 lead in the game. Karl Sellan scored his second of the period to make it a seven-goal game before the end of the period.

The Eagles scored three goals in the third period, all on the power play. Aaron Schneekloth, Brent Hughes and Ed McGrane scored making the game 8-4. Arizona outshot the Eagles 37-33 in the game, and finished out the season 4-0 at home against Colorado. Final Score: Sundogs 8 - Eagles 4.
