RiverKings close season with loss, playoff foe still undecided
March 24, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- John DeCaro made 30 saves and registered his second shutout of the season as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Memphis RiverKings 2-0 Saturday night in front of 5789 fans at the DeSoto Civic Center. The RiverKings finished the regular season with a 39-19-6 record and now head to the 2007 CHL playoffs next week.
While the regular season is over for the RiverKings, their opponent for next week's playoff opener is still up in the air as Oklahoma City and Youngstown both won tonight. That means if the Steelhounds win or lose in overtime or shootout tomorrow at Bossier-Shreveport in their finale, they will be the fourth seed and the RiverKings opponent. If the Steelhounds lose in regulation tomorrow, Oklahoma City is the fourth seed. The Blazers played their last game tonight and defeated Wichita in a shootout.
In Saturday night's game at the DCC, Karlis Zirnis and Kyle Musselman scored the only goals of the game as the Mudbugs won their ninth straight and also stayed alive in the race for the overall number one seed in the CHL playoffs.
For the RiverKings, it is the only time they were shutout this season and the first time since a 1-0 loss at Bossier-Shreveport on January 21, 2006.
Kevin Schieve play well in net for Memphis, making 28 saves on 30 shots, but fell to 6-6-1 on the season.
The RiverKings also announced that the team will be hosting a playoff kickoff at Beef O' Brady's on Monday at 7pm. The entire team will be there plus a one hour Playoff Preview Radio Show will originate live from Beef's and air on Sports56 WHBQ from 7 to 8. All fans are invited to come and congratulate the team on a great regular season and wish them luck in the postseason.
