Eagles Lead the Way in CHL's

WINDSOR, CO- The Central Hockey League announced the results of the annual "Best of the Best" poll Tuesday morning, and the Colorado Eagles led all teams with representation in 15 of 40 categories. Each team's coaches, players and broadcast/media departments voted and a points system determined the winners of each category. Of the 15 awards for the Eagles, 5 were first place votes and 10 were second place. The Eagles had seven top finishes in player categories with the remaining eight going to the other miscellaneous categories.

Colorado's Greg Pankewicz did not win the Best Overall Player category for the first time in three seasons finishing second, just two points behind Amarillo's Derek Hahn. He finished second in two other categories, Hardest Shooter and Best Leader finishing with three top three's. Riley Nelson was on the ballot this year also getting second in two categories, he finished behind Derek Hahn as the Best Stickhandler and behind Bernie John as the Most Gentlemanly Player. Two other Eagles' players won their respective categories. Ryan Tobler was voted as the Best Power Forward for the third straight season beating out second place Jeff Christian by 24 points and Fraser Filipic was named the Best Fighter for the first time in three seasons, he leads the CHL with 26 major penalties.

Colorado was in the top three in eight off-the-ice categories. After breaking the Central Hockey League record for consecutive sellouts, the Eagles' fans were rightfully voted as the Best Fans in the Central Hockey League. The Budweiser Events Center was ranked four separate categories; the building was first in the Toughest Building to Win In and Best Arena Concessions categories while getting second in the Best Arena and Best Press Box. The Eagles Chicks finished second in the CHL as the Best Cheerleaders, the Fort Collins Marriott was second for the Best Host Hotel and last but not least, the Eagles' public address announcer Reed Saunders finished second in the Best PA Announcer category.
