LAREDO, Texas - The Central Hockey League today unveiled the results of the third annual CHL Best of the Best Poll. Laredo Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski was selected as the top coach in the CHL. All teams (players, coaches and broadcasters) completed a form listing their top three selections in each category. First place votes were worth five points, second place votes worth three points and third place votes worth one point. The Bucks, who have already clinched their fourth straight playoff berth, host the Odessa Jackalopes this Friday at the LEC. Ruskowski was selected as the Best Coach in the annual poll as he received six first place votes and 30 total points. In the 2004 CHL Best of the Best poll Ruskowski was selected as the second Best Coach.
Bucks captain Brent Cullaton was selected as the second Best Skater receiving five first place votes. The last two seasons Cullaton was selected as the Best Skater in the CHL.
Bucks defenseman Serge Dube was honored as the second best Offensive Defenseman in the CHL, receiving five first place votes. It is his first appearance in the Best of the Best poll.
Bucks forward Jeff Bes was named the third Best Playmaker, receiving one first place vote. Two years ago he was selected as the Best Playmaker. He was also second in Best Stick Handler, Best Penalty Killer, and third in Best Overall Player in the 2004 poll.
Third year Bucks forward Steve Simoes was picked the third best Defensive Forward, garnering two first place votes. It is his first appearance in the Best of the Best poll.
Laredo Bucks fans were selected as the second Best Fans and also as the third Most Annoying Fans, meaning they effectively get under the skin of opposing teams. Bucks fans were honored as the Best Fans in the CHL in the 2004 poll.
The Laredo Entertainment Center, where the Bucks have posted a 23-4-1 record this season, was voted the second Toughest Place to Win. Last year the LEC was the third Toughest Place to Win, while two years ago it captured first place honors.
The Bucks were selected as having the second Best Uniforms in the CHL, getting three first place votes. The Bucks were also selected second last year and in 2004 were voted as having the Best Uniforms in the CHL.
The Laredo Bucks Booster Club was honored as the second Best Booster Club with three first place votes.
In addition Joe Dominey was selected as the Best Broadcaster in the CHL, capturing five first place votes.
