Eagles GM Confident with Organization After Fan Feedback

Cape Breton Eagles News Release

Following a week when the Cape Breton Eagles let their fans voice their opinion on what they want from the team moving forward, the General Manager is staying confident both on the ice and in the office.

On Wednesday, the Eagles hosted their annual Town Hall Meeting at Centre 200 in Sydney to allow team officials to share their plans moving forward throughout the season.

Fans in attendance and those who watched live from home were given the chance to voice their own opinions on how the club can improve, both through questions to team staff and through an online and in-person survey.

The survey sought feedback from fans regarding what they feel could be improved from a production standpoint for home games this season.

With new coaching staff and a brand new roster of front office workers, the Eagles are looking to make immediate change for the better for their club in its 27th season.

With lower than average attendance and a losing record at home, team General Manager Sylvain Couturier said the time for change is now.

"Early on in the season, the worst thing we could do as a coaching staff...we can't panic right now. We have to fix the problem, and that is what we are doing here today," he said during Thursday's public meeting.

The Eagles front office have since planned to make changes in time for Friday's game against Shawinigan as the first step towards a new and improved team identity.

On the ice, Couturier said although his team is struggling to score goals he is confident in the core of young players his staff has out together for this season and the years to follow.

"We are well aware of the situation we are in and we are willing to put in the effort to fix the problem. There are 48 games left, and I am confident that we will get back on track," he said.

With the QMJHL's trade period looming on Dec. 17, Couturier said he will be looking to improve his team and continue on with his three year plan of creating a league contender.

Next season, the Eagles will welcome back 18 players from this season, including team leading scorer Cole Burbidge who will be in his 19-year-old season next year.

Couturier said he believes Burbidge will be one of the top skaters in the league next season.

"With Burbidge, that was an example of trading picks for a player that will make us better right away," he said. "We are in really good shape right now on the ice, with our picks, with our assets and we will continue to follow the plan. We will do what we have to do to get to the next step."
