Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME
- All four forward lines hit the back of the net as the Cape Breton as the Eagles shutout the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-0.
- Nicolas Ruccia stopped all 29 Shawinigan shots, while Mathis Langevin allowed three goals on nine shots in the loss. Rémi Delafontaine stopped 11 of 12 in relief.
- Cam Squires, Angelo Fullerton, Callum Aucoin, and Emile Ricard hit the back of the net for the Eagles while Brayden Schmitt added three assists.
- The result pushed Shawinigan's losing streak to eight games.
The Eagles started fast, as 22 seconds in Cam MacDonald wired a shot off the post. The Eagles were unable to score on the game's first power play, but made up for it not long after on a nifty individual effort by Squires. Squires deked through the defense up the right wing and slid it through a sprawling Langevin.
The lead tripled before period's end. Angelo Fullerton tipped a point shot by Langevin to make it 2-0, and Callum Aucoin pushed the score to 3-0 putting a shot in the top corner. That spelled the end of Langevin's night and former Eagle goaltender Delafontaine entered the game for Shawinigan.
Neither team found the back of the net in the middle stanza, and opportunities were tough to come by for both sides in the third. Despite being outshot 10-4, it was the home side coming up with the only goal as Ricard finished a one timer from Schmitt to finish the scoring.
The Eagles will now begin a three game Maritime road trip that kicks off Sunday afternoon in Halifax against the Mooseheads. Puck drop is 3 PM Atlantic time.
