Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Bakersfield Condors, 2-1, taking their second one-goal game in a row against their Western Conference foe. The victory was the Eagles' seventh in eight games, and their third in a row with a short bench. The teams will finish their three-game set Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
Colorado got the first frame's only goal just over two and a half minutes in. The tally took place when Michael Forney carried the puck down the left wing and stalled before sending a pass to Joey Sides whose shot was deflected home by Dylan Hood who was crashing the crease.
The teams exchanged power-play goals in the second stanza, with Colorado striking first to push its lead to 2-0. That goal came at 5:13 when Teegan Moore put home a Jake Marto rebound from the right side of the crease. The Condors countered with their man-advantage marker at 9:25 when Evan Trupp took a cross-ice pass from Levi Nelson in the right circle and roofed a shot over Adam Brown.
The Condors -- who entered the game just 1-16-1 when trailing after two periods this season -- had a potential game-tying goal waived off five minutes into the final frame. During a scrum in the Eagles' crease, the goal light was accidentally lit by the goal judge, but the score was waived off by referee Joe Sullivan who was in perfect position to make the call.
Bakersfield put up their best effort of the night the rest of the frame to try and tie the contest, but Brown and the Eagles' defense were able to shut them out for the third period out of six so far in the week's set.
