Third Period Sinks Solar Bears in 6-2 Loss

Estero, FL - Three Everblades goals in the third period doomed Orlando to a 6-2 loss to the Florida Everblades at the Germain Arena on Friday night.

The Everblades kicked off the scoring less than five minutes into the game. C David Rutherford's shot was kicked away by G Hannu Toivonen, but F Mathieu Roy fired the rebound into the top left corner of the net to give Florida a 1-0 lead. F Ryan Reaves answered for the Solar Bears at 6:28, gathering up a rebound on a shot from D Bryce Lampman and knocking it home to even the score at 1-1 with the power play goal. Florida regained their lead before the end of the frame, however, with a power play goal on a wrist shot from D Bobby Raymond with 6:14 remaining as the Everblades held a 2-1 lead after one period.

Orlando tied the contest 12:50 into the second stanza. Immediately after a Solar Bears power play, D Derek Martin flipped a pass to F C.J. Severyn, who batted the puck out of mid-air and into the back of the net to even the score at 2-2. However, with just 36 seconds left in the period, a shot from F Corey Trivino was stopped by Toivonen, but bounced off the skates of a Solar Bears defenseman and rolled into the back of the net to allow Florida to take a 3-2 lead into the third.

The final frame belonged to the Everblades, as they struck for three goals in the third. LW Alex Hutchings knocked home a rebound at 10:26 to put Florida up 4-2,and Roy collected his second goal of the night when he slammed a rebound through the pads of Toivonen at 15:28. D Mark Stuart finished off the scoring with 1:14 left in the contest when he fired a one-timer just inside the left goal post for the game's final 6-2 score.

Notes:

D Derek Martin picked up his first point of the year with an assist in the second period... The Solar Bears have now scored at least one power play goal for three straight games... Orlando has previously won three straight games against the Everblades... C Mathew Sisca was held without a point against the Everblades for the first time all year. He has 11 points (4g, 7a) in six games against Florida.
