Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush (36-22-4) and Colorado Eagles (36-21-4) met for the twelfth and final time of the regular season on Tuesday night. The Rush staged a rally, but three unanswered goals to conclude the game gave the Eagles a 7-3 win. With the loss, the Rush are now tied with the Eagles for first place in the Turner Conference. The Rush now play the Laredo Bucks this Friday and Saturday, March 18th and 19th, the final home games of the regular season. Tickets are still available.
The Eagles controlled the early going, jumping out to a two-goal lead six minutes in. The first tally came on the powerplay from Scott May who fired home a rebound from the right circle just 1:31 in. Colorado doubled the lead when Adam Chroneyko snapped a wrist shot that beat Danny Battochio to the short side and over the blocker.
Colorado added to the lead with another powerplay goal, this one from Adam Hogg at the 4:32 mark of the second period to take a 3-0 lead. Hogg's goal brought Danny Battochio's night to an end, making way for Tim Boron. The Rush finally got on the board with a powerplay goal from Colt King who batted home a rebound at 6:27. With less than seven minutes left in the second, Daymen Rycroft potted his 29th of the season from the low slot to regain the three-goal advantage. The Rush bounced back with a late goal from captain Scott Wray, his 17th of the year, assisted by Gio Flamminio and Jesse Schultz.
The Rush began the third period on the powerplay and capitalized on the chance just 1:08 into the frame. The Rush pulled to within one when Dave Grimson's shot from the point was deflected home by Wray for the veteran's second of the game. The 4-3 score was the closest that the Rush would come as the Eagles rattled off three unanswered goals in the second half of the third period. The first came from Scott May while on the powerplay, a goal assisted by Adam Chorneyko ad Kyle Peto. Four minutes later, Dan Sullivan's deflection extended the Eagles lead to three. Finally, Chorneyko collected his second of the game and fourth point of the night at the 17:24 mark, giving the Eagles a 7-3 final.
