Rapid City Rush News Release

Rapid City, SD - Last week, Rush players and their wives went to work in the Rapid City community with the goal of raising money for a pair of nonprofit organizations. Rush players took to three separate McDonald's locations in Rapid City to benefit the Rush Foundation while player's wives sold one-of-a-kind collectibles to assist Working Against Violence Inc. (WAVI). In total, the two events raised over $9,000 that will stay within the Black Hills Community.

On Wednesday, Rush players participated in the first annual "McRush Night" where 50% of the entire food sales were donated to the Rush Foundation. Players were paired up with a McDonald's employee and worked the front counter, passed out orders at the drive-through, and even assisted in preparing food in the kitchen.

In total, the McRush event raised $4,870 to benefit the Rush Foundation.

Then at Friday night's game against the Tulsa Oilers, player wives teamed up with Working Against Violence Inc. (WAVI) and organized a silent auction to help benefit the local nonprofit organization. WAVI assists victims of domestic violence by assisting women and children in crisis situations by providing temporary emergency shelter, food, and/or supportive services, and to educate the community on the issues of battering. Earlier this winter WAVI experienced a number of facility problems which have gotten in the way of helping their clients.

The wives collected and helped auction off signed and framed photos of each of the Rush players along with Ryan Menei's signed all-star game stick. Proceeds from the auction as well as Saturday night's chuck-a-puck contest went directly to WAVI.

The group was able to raise $4,212 to help with the maintenance repairs. A portion of the money will be used to fix their elevator's motherboard so that they will once again be wheelchair accessible.
