Dykstra Powers B-Mets Past Thunder, 7-4

BINGHAMTON, NY - Allan Dykstra's three-run home run in the seventh inning broke a tie ballgame and helped the B-Mets defeat the Trenton Thunder 7-4 tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

After watching their two-run lead disappear in the top of the seventh, Binghamton jumped on reliever Cory Arbiso in the bottom half of the frame. Josh Satin and Reese Havens started the rally off with singles.

The golden opportunity almost slipped away when Brahiam Maldonado struck out and Salomon Manriquez grounded out to put a pair of outs on the board.

Dykstra, facing a righty for the first time in the game, lined the second pitch he saw from Arbiso over the right field fence for his seventh homer of the season to give Binghamton the lead for good.

Rhiner Cruz, who took over for Ricky Brooks in a rocky seventh, took it the rest of the way, tossing 2.2 innings, including a perfect ninth, to lock up his first win as a B-Met.

Prior to the seventh inning, B-Mets starter Jeurys Familia was in line for the win. The right-hander allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out ten over six innings. It was the second straight start that Familia struck out ten or more Thunder batters.

Handed a 4-2 lead, Brooks took over in the seventh and allowed back-to-back singles to Ray Kruml and Corban Joseph to start things off. Two batters later, Cody Johnson launched a double off the top of the left-centerfield wall which brought home both runners and tied the game.

Binghamton had owned the lead after tagging Trenton starter Kei Igawa for four runs over five innings. Jordany Valdespin started a three-run first inning by stroking his third leadoff homer of the season. Raul Reyes tacked on another run with a solo shot in the second.

The B-Mets (23-43) wrap up the Subway Series North against the Thunder at 1:05pm tomorrow. RHP Tobi Stoner (2-2, 7.29) will be opposed by LHP Shaeffer Hall (6-3, 3.92). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 12:50pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
