Durny Helps Des Moines Down Dubuque, 6-0

Des Moines used a four-goal second period to overpower the Fighting Saints, 6-0 on Saturday night. Roman Durny made 30 saves in a shutout effort and claimed his second win of the weekend. Dubuque outshot the Buccaneers 30-23, but Des Moines was opportunistic in the second and third. With the loss, the Saints couldn't clinch a Clark Cup playoff berth and Des Moines was able to grab one with the win.

-Des Moines followed the same script as they did last game against the Fighting Saints and one they have followed all season. The Bucs got off to a slow start and Dubuque was the better team in the first. However, Durny made a few key stops and Des Moines escaped 0-0.

-The second period started quickly for the Buccaneers as Matt Brown tallied his 28th of the season just two minutes in. Brown beat Chris Lipe down the near wall and shelfed the shot over Aaron Randazzo's shoulder.

-Des Moines scored quickly after the Brown goal to make it 2-0. Michael Mancinelli grabbed a pass and slotted one blocker side on the breakaway for a quick two goal lead. Des Moines would add another two in the period to take a commanding lead.

-The Bucs added two more goals in the final stanza, as Sam Renlund and Isaac Novak scored. Renlund used a wraparound to beat Matthew Thiessen-who came in to relieve Randazzo-and Novak scored on a pretty deflection out of mid-air.

-Dubuque once again had some good chances in the third period and Durny was able to turn them away. In two starts against the Fighting Saints, Durny has made 75 saves and allowed just two goals. On the weekend the netminder had 55 stops.

-Despite the loss, the Saints still have a chance to clinch a spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs for the ninth-straight season tomorrow against Central Illinois. With the Flying Aces losing to Muskegon, Dubuque's magic number has dipped to just one. The Saints would clinch with a win or an overtime loss.

-After the game, head coach Oliver David said the team simply needs to refocus and get ready for tomorrow. The team has a quick turnaround and can wipe the result out with a good performance tomorrow. The goal for Dubuque will be to bounce back in a big way against Central Illinois.
