Norfolk Tides News Release
The Durham Bulls completed a three-game series sweep with an 11-2 win over the Tides on a rainy Friday night at Harbor Park.
The Bulls pounded out 16 hits in the contest, including home runs by Chris Richard, Matt Joyce and Elliot Johnson. The homer by Richard was his 63rd in his Durham career, setting a new franchise record.
Over the past 30 games, Norfolk has now been out-homered 39-6.
Norfolk starter Chris Lambert (6-9) took the loss in his home debut, yielding four runs on five hits in three innings of work. Lambert and Durham starter Wade Davis were both removed from the contest after the game was delayed by rain for 54 minutes in the top of the fourth inning.
Joey Gathright once again led the Tides offense, as he collected two of Norfolk's five hits and drove in a run. Gathright has now hit safely in 13 straight games, with eight multi-hit efforts over that stretch.
The Tides will welcome the Charlotte Knights to Harbor Park on Saturday for the start of a four-game set, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15. Norfolk will send highly-touted prospect Jake Arrieta (5-6, 3.92) to the hill against right-hander Jake Peavy (1-1, 2.25), who will be making his fourth major league rehab start with the Knights. Peavy, who won the 2007 National League Cy Young Award, is rehabbing a strained tendon in his right ankle.
On Saturday the first 4,000 fans 18 & over will receive a set of playing cards featuring famous Tides players, courtesy of Secure Horizons. The hilarious Zooperstars will also perform throughout the game, courtesy of WHRO.
