Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - All good things must come to an end. Charlotte's four-game winning streak over Gwinnett ended Friday night in a 4-1 loss before 6,268 fans.
The Knights struck first with Dewayne Wise's RBI single to left field that scored Stefan Gartrell. Charlotte would hold that lead until things unraveled in the top of the 8th. John Vanbenschoten replaced Knights starter Carlos Torres-who gave up only hit while striking out five Braves on the night. With Van Pope on first, Gregor Blanco reached base on a throwing error by Knights 1B Josh Kroeger in an attempted sacrifice bunt. Wes Timmons brought home Pope with an RBI single to right tying the game at 1-1.
Jhonny Nunez replaced Van Benschoten two batters later. The first batter Nunez faced, Barbaro Canizares, hit a sharp line drive to center field scoring Brooks Conrad and Timmons making it 4-1.
Van Benschoten (2-6, 5.68) took the loss for the Knights. Jon Huber (3-0, 4.70) picked up the win for the Braves.
The Knights hit the road for a four-game road trip to Norfolk. RHP Jake Peavy (1-1, 2.25) will make his fourth rehab start for Charlotte. RHP Jake Arrieta (5-6, 3.92) will start for Norfolk.
