Durbin added to EL All-Star team

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Chris Durbin has been added to the Eastern League All-Star team. The Eastern League named Durbin as a replacement for Trenton's Kevin Thompson who was promoted to Triple-A. Trenton pitcher Justin Pope takes the roster spot of Jon Papelbon who was also promoted to Triple-A.

Durbin joins Hanley Ramirez, Brandon Moss, Jon Lester, Jared Sandberg, and Kenny Perez as Sea Dogs in the mid-summer classic. The 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game will be played in Portland, Maine on Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM. The Sea Dogs coaching staff consisting of manager Todd Claus, pitching coach Fernando Arroyo, hitting coach Russ Morman, and trainer Masai Takahashi will coach the Northern Division All-Stars.

In 54 games this season, Durbin is hitting .292 with 16 doubles, 10 homeruns, and 41 RBI. In April, the Red Sox presented him with the Quality Plate Appearances Award for the month. He is ranked by Baseball America as the # 24 prospect in the Red Sox organization.

The 23 year-old from Wylie, Texas was selected in the tenth round of the June 2003 draft. In 2004 with Single-A Sarasota he finished sixth in the Florida State League with 32 doubles and 75 runs scored, seventh in hits with 131, ninth in triples with six, and tenth in the league in extra base hits with 45.

The Sea Dogs continue their eight game road trip tonight with a 7:05 PM game against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees). Portland will also travel to Manchester, New Hampshire for a four game set with the Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) before returning home for the All-Star Break.
