Fisher Cats rally late to earn doubleheader split

(BINGHAMTON) - First baseman Clint Johnston's bases loaded single in the top of the seventh inning scored two runs putting New Hampshire in front, and third baseman Rob Cosby followed with a homer as New Hampshire rallied for a 6-2 win in the nightcap of a twi-night doubleheader in Binghamton. The Mets had won the first game 4-2. New Hampshire (44-40) trailed 2-0 going to the final inning of the second game. Met starter Orlando Roman left after pitching six shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out ten. Binghamton reliever Anderson Garcia walked Jason Waugh, and then made an error on a groundball allowing Jose Umbria to reach. Brad Hassey bunted the runners up before Miguel Negron's single cut the lead to 2-1. Negron stole second and the Mets intentionally walked Ryan Roberts, setting the table for Johnston, who hit a high chopper into right field for a 3-2 lead. Cosby followed with his 11th home run, and fifth in the month of July to put the Fisher Cats up 6-2. New Hampshire starter Ismael Ramirez allowed two runs on five hits, solo homers by Victor Hall and Mike Jacobs before leaving after six innings. Jesse Carlson worked a scoreless seventh inning for the Fisher Cats. In the opener, Ron Davenport's two-run homer put New Hampshire in front 2-1 in the second inning. Binghamton (39-42) starter Yusemeiro Petit shut the Fisher Cats down the rest of the game, finishing with a complete game victory. He walked one and struck out 10, allowing only five hits. The Mets plated two in the bottom of the sixth inning against New Hampshire starter Josh Banks (7-7) to win the game. Mike Jacobs, who's homer tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning, doubled home Aarom Baldiris, and Jeff Duncan doubled home Jacobs. The Fisher Cats play their final regular season game in Binghamton Thursday night against the Mets. Right hander Jamie Vermilyea (3-2, 2.05) goes for New Hampshire against Binghamton right hander Bryan Edwards (2-2, 3.21). Game time is 7pm.
