Dunedin Falls Short in Series Finale against Clearwater

Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

CLEARWATER, FL.--- Clearwater completed the sweep of Dunedin with a 9-3 victory. The top and bottom of the first inning were filled with sparks as the three hitter, Alec Bohm for the Threshers hit a solo shot off of Justin Dillon to open the scoring. Cullen Large was able to return the favor for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the inning with a long home run to left field, which was his second home run of the year.

It was more of the same for the Threshers in the 3rd inning as they put another run on the board with a home run by Simon Muzziotti to put the score at 2-1. Even being out-hit seven to one for the first three innings it was just a one run contest. Justin Dillon was able to limit the damage tonight allowing only three runs on eight hits through his four innings of work. Dunedin was able to get him off the hook for the loss in the 4th inning. Cullen Large started the inning with a single, part of a two-hit day, and Alejandro Kirk brought him home with a single after a passed ball got Large to second. Ryan Noda smacked a double to right field putting to runners in scoring position. A Norberto Obeso walk setup Kevin Vicuna to tie the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.

After the 4th inning, the Blue Jays were unable to record another hit in the contest. The club was able to threaten with walks and aggressive base running, but the timely hitting eluded the team for much of the night. The Threshers put the game out of reach in the 8th inning plating four runs to make the game a 9-3 contest. A home run, passed ball, and wild pitch lead to the final runs being scored for Clearwater.

It was a tough series for the Blue Jays, but they will look to get back on track Monday after an off day tomorrow. Monday will open up a four game series with the Jupiter Hammerheads. A series sweep was in line for Dunedin last time out against Jupiter, and the team hopes to continue that success and get back in the win column. The game is set for 6:30 p.m. at Jack Russell Stadium.
