Duke Opens MLS Scoring Account to Extend Winning Streak
April 24, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Inter Miami CF News Release
Inter Miami CF pushed its winning streak to four games in all competitions with a 2-1 victory against Atlanta United FC on Saturday, April 24, the longest streak in the club's history.
In a comeback victory after the guests jumped to an early 1-0 lead, Inter Miami forward Leonardo Campana continued his spectacular run of form, scoring in the 28th minute and providing the game-winning assist to Bryce Duke in the 64th minute. Duke's game winner was his first career MLS goal.
Following the match, the midfielder expressed that the team is excited to share in each other's success.
"Four games straight, that we won in a row. To my knowledge, this is the first time that has ever happened in club history, to be a part of that is a tremendous achievement. Helping the team out with a goal is always a plus on my side. In the end the only thing that matters is the result."
Duke continued by showing enthusiasm and praising his teammates' drive and ambition that fuels the squad.
"We have a young squad, that's obviously a strength. It could be considered a weakness but that's something we have to overcome. We are a new team. It's our first season together, we are building that chemistry but on the positive side we are always hungry, going into tackles, everyone wants to have that starting spot and to get the best result for the team. It's just a competition within the team which is great, and just having good training and good games and just having that depth for people to come off the bench and help the team."
Head Coach Phil Neville, meanwhile, was eager to share his thoughts on the team's recent performances
"I'm immensely proud of the week that we've had. Beating Seattle, beating Miami FC, traveling and everything that came with it. And then today, we were virtually running on empty. I thought we couldn't get any rhythm in the game, but one thing I was sure we were going to guarantee was that we'd fight to the very end."
Looking forward to how the club can continue proving itself as the season progresses, Neville said
"That's where we want to be, but the road is long, and there are many bumps and bruises. You see the results. I think when people are tuning in now, I think they're seeing a new Inter Miami."
Inter Miami CF returns to the pitch at Gillette Stadium this Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m E.T.
